I put off buying this figure for some months after its release – as a specialist collector with a fondness for ceratopsians, I already had so many Triceratops. But the more I looked at it, the more I liked it. It is very much understated rather than demanding immediate attention and it repays a leisurely examination. I appreciate the sober colours more and more, especially the subtle shades of the frill (both front and back), and the texturing and colouring on the horns are beautiful. The unobtrusive colour palette seems very appropriate for a large animal (and makes for an excellent contrast with my brightly coloured Beasts of the Mesozoic ceratopsians!) The articulated jaw is less distracting in hand than in photos – especially if you open the mouth a little. (Though personally I would perhaps prefer not to have them on herbivores.) As you would expect from PNSO, the quality control of the paintwork and detailing is excellent. The posters are interesting and informative, especially the ones naming the skull bones. The skull is an unusual extra to include and most welcome. So no regrets about buying another Triceratops!
