It took me a while to get the original version of BOTM’s Zuniceratops because it seemed to be out of stock for so long and I thought I was going to miss out and have a gap in my collection. Once I did get it I loved it as a delightful representation of the smaller early Ceratopsians before they flourished and diversified into the giants we are more familiar with.
When I saw this version was being released I thought – “I won’t get that one, it’s too much of a novelty”. But in the end my love of the entire BOTM Ceratopsian range got the better of me and I caved, surprisingly easily as it happens!!. I have no regrets at all. It’s a stunning and beautiful little figure. As the name and photos confirm this variant is very much based on the albino (technically called amelanistic) morphs often bred within ball pythons (and other reptiles) where the absence of dark melanistic pigments leaves a combination of white and bright yellow only.
The paint app rendering of this form is really well executed and it is somehow much more subtle than just white and yellow. There are hints of pink to suggest the translucence of the low pigment skin and the overall skin also has a pearlescent quality. My only minor gripe is that the flat brown of the horns and beak could perhaps have been given a little more paint complexity, but that may have been a deliberate choice to contrast with the albino skin tones.
So yes this revised paint app is a novelty, but aren’t they all to some extent? In my opinion this is a delightful addition and well worth having to complement the bold, vibrant, often outrageous paint apps that make the BOTM Ceratopsian series the iconic paleo art pieces that they are.
    Enjoy your dinosaur figures!!
